Minimally Invasive Surgery offers patients a rapid return to full function, less pain, and smaller incisions. The use of minimally invasive surgery in the general surgical arena began in the 1980's with the introduction of laparoscopic cholecystectomy for the treatment of gallbladder disease. Since that time, the field of minimally invasive surgery has become more sophisticated through an alliance with physicians and industry. Engineering accomplishments have allowed surgeons to perform more complicated procedures in a minimally invasive method, resulting in shorter hospital stays, smaller incisions, less pain and faster recovery.
Cartersville Surgical Associates has been a leader in minimally invasive surgery in northwest Georgia. Our surgeons where the first in northwest Georgia to perform a number of minimally invasive procedures including the first laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication, inguinal hernia repair, incisional hernia repair, adrenalectomy, splenectomy, colectomy, and gastric surgery for ulcer disease.
In December of 2004, Cartersville Medical Center was the first hospital in Northwest Georgia to add a Storz OR1 videoscopic system to the operating room. The Storz system provides for superior visualization, and reduces physician and staff fatigue to improve patient outcomes.
Dr. Pruitt, has been actively involved in the training of numerous surgeons in the minimally invasive arena and has an active teaching affiliation with Dr. James "Butch" Rosser, from Beth Israel Hospital in New York City, in the "Top Gun Laparoscopic Suturing and Skills Course".
